(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has started the QR626mn Roads and Infrastructure Project in the Mebaireek area, it was announced yesterday.
The works are part of Ashghal's plan to provide an integrated infrastructure, advanced roads network, and service facilities throughout the country.
The project is located in Mebaireek, south of Salwa Road, west of Energy Street, and north of Industrial Street 33.
'It aims to provide an internal road network and an integrated infrastructure that meets the requirements of the population and urban growth in the future, Ashghal explained in a statement.
The project has been divided into four areas to be implemented simultaneously in order to reduce the impact of construction work and inconvenience to residents.
The works are scheduled to be fully completed in the second quarter of 2024.
Abdulla al-Suwaidi, project engineer in the Western Area Projects Section at Ashghal's Roads Projects Department, said the project serves 1,163 citizens' residential plots in Mebaireek area.
'It aims to provide 55km of internal roads to enhance traffic flow and provide connectivity with public facilities in the area, he said. 'In addition to traffic safety elements such as street lighting systems and poles, it provides road signs.
'Within the scope of the project, 9km of shared paths for pedestrians and bicycles will be provided along with 7,236 car parks.
Al-Suwaidi added that the infrastructure construction works include a drainage network of about 17km, a 50km surface and groundwater drainage network, and a 28km treated water network.
These are in addition to the extension of potable water pipes connected to the main network, and the protection of power and communications lines.
The implementation of the project mainly depend on local materials and contractors.
Materials such as gabbro, columns, lighting lamps, road sign, sewage pipes, rainwater drainage, asphalt and prefabricated manholes, in addition to concrete and steel reinforcement, will be supplied by local Qatari factories.
It's expected that the local components will reach up to 85% of the project works, which is within Ashghal's continuous support to local factories and it's 'Ta'heel initiative.
The project is being implemented by the Boom Construction Company.
