Sri Lanka to make sign language accepted ways of communication

(MENAFN)Sri Lanka's cabinet of ministers on Tuesday, January 19th, accepted to make sign language an accepted ways of communication and will advise the lawful draftsmen to draft relevant bill, local media citing the Government Information Department stated.

In a report, the department stated that the proposal was tabled by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and it will aid identify sign language as a familiar ways of communication in accessing educational needs, legal matters, health facilities, a variety of government services and private services.

A new study from the Ministry of Health reveals that 9 percent of the total population of Sri Lanka suffered from some kind of hearing disorder.
