(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Jan. 18 (Petra) -- A tangible drop in temperatures is expected on Monday, so it will be chilly and cloudy with scattered showers in various parts of the Kingdom, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said in its daily brief.
Rainfall is expected to be heavier in the northern and central regions, accompanied by thunder storms and hail, and making floods in the valleys and low-lying areas, while winds will be westerly moderate to brisk, the JMD added, noting that rainfall is expected to decrease by night hours with a possibility of patchy fog.
The weather department also warned of poor visibility due to dust and fog formation in the Badia and highlands, and of slippery roads in the areas experiencing rain.
On Tuesday, very cold conditions with cloudy skies will continue to prevail during day time, but later in the evening, the Kingdom will be affected by an air depression coming from Syria, bringing cloudy spotty showers in the northern regions, stretching at night to cover the central and southwestern highlands along with parts of the eastern areas.
The JMD predicted that downpours will be heavier in the western parts of the country, with lightning, thunder and hail at times, while winds will be westerly active with strong gusts exceeding 50 km/hour and blowing dust in the Badia.
As we head into Wednesday, the impact of the cold front and the depression will deepen, so bitterly cold and cloudy weather will persist along with heavy rain, accompanied by thunder and hail, and making flash floods, according to the JMD.
Snow showers are also expected over the southern mountain peaks of Al-Sharah, the weather department said, adding that there are some initial indications that the northern and central highlands of the kingdom may witness showers of rain and snow.
Toward night, rain precipitation will gradually taper off with a possibility of freeze formation in heights and Badia.
Mercury in Amman today ranges between 9 Celsius degrees, dropping to 5C during night hours, while the city of Aqaba will see a high of 21C, sliding into 11C at night.
