Kuwait- S. Korea adds 389 new virus cases, total now at 72,729


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) TOKYO, Jan 18 (KUNA) -- South Korea added 389 new coronavirus cases on Monday, bringing the country's total caseload to 72,729, according to Yonhap News Agency.
Monday's daily figure is the highest number since November 25, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.
The country reported 15 more deaths, raising the total to 1,264, the public health agency said.
Of the locally transmitted cases, Seoul accounted for 128 cases and the surrounding Gyeonggi Province took up 103.
The government extended its current social distancing level for another two weeks from Monday, though it eased some restrictions on cafes, gyms and other indoor facilities.
Under the new measures, the capital area will continue to enforce Level 2.5, the second highest in a five-tier system, and the rest of the nation will remain under Level Two.
The ban on private gatherings of five or more people, and the restriction on business operations after 9:00 p.m., was also extended. However, indoor gyms, cram schools and some other establishments are allowed to reopen on the condition that they strictly adhere to antivirus measures. (end)
