Kuwait- FM: Saudi Arabia, Qatar agree to reopen borders

KUWAIT, Jan 4 (KUNA) -- Saudi Arabia and Qatar have agreed to reopen air traffic, land and sea border crossings starting from Monday evening, Kuwait's top diplomat announced.
On the eve of the 41st GCC Summit, to be attended by Arabian Gulf leaders in Al-Ula Governorate, Saudi Arabia, His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah made phone calls with Amir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, of Qatar, and Crown Prince, Deputy Premier and Defense Minister Mohammad Bin Salman Salman, of Saudi Arabia, said Kuwait Foreign Minister Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah in a KTV broadcast.
Keenness on unity among brethren, which will be crowned by signing the Al-Ula declaration tomorrow, would signal the turn of a new leaf in intra-Gulf relations, noted Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Al-Sabah.
Expressing utmost gratitude for both leaderships in this regard, the agreement of opening air, land and sea ports was based on a proposal by His Highness the Amir; nonetheless, noted the Kuwaiti Foreign Minister.
His Highness's proposal and the agreement announcement would eventually pave the way for this upcoming summit to be one of reconciliation among Gulf countries, in addition to Egypt, Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Al-Sabah pointed out. (end)
