Greece COVID-19 cases pass 140,000 mark amid tighter curbs

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ANKARA, Jan 3 (KUNA) -- Greece on Sunday said daily coronavirus infections had risen by 390 to a total of 140,099, while 36 new fatalities upped its death toll from the outbreak to 4,957, health ministry data showed.
Authorities have said that schools would be allowed to reopen on January 11 after they had been closed due to an aggressive spike in COVID-19 infection rates, government spokesman Stelios Petsas told state television.
He called on Greeks to adhere to health precautions to keep infection numbers down, saying these measures would help schools safely reopen in due time, as the government looks to stiffen coronavirus curbs, including a nighttime curfew.
Greece, along with other European Union countries, started mass vaccinations against COVID-19 last week. (end)
