(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) RIYADH, Dec 30 (KUNA) -- GCC Secretary General Dr. Nayef Al-Hajraf delivered on Wednesday an invitation from Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz to Qatari Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to participate in the 41st GCC summit.
The GCC Secretariat General said in a statement that Al-Hajraf, who was visiting Qatar, informed Sheikh Tamim about preparations for the GCC top-level meeting.
Al-Hajraf affirmed in a statement his delivery of the invitation to the Qatari Amir adding that he discussed with him the council accomplishments in the social, economic and commercial fields.
He lauded the accomplishments that have been made since establishment of the GCC, in early 80s, calling for focusing future action on attaining the youth aspirations and cooperation to restore economic growth in the member states despite repercussions of the coronavirus.
He also called for resumption of inter-GCC free trade negotiations and boosting strategic partnerships with friendly nations.
The forthcoming GCC summit is due on January 5. Kuwait has officially expressed hope it would be marked with tackling rifts and restoring normal relations among some of the block member countries.
The GCC, which comprises Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the UAE, Qatar, Oman and Bahrain was founded in the early 80s amid a murky regional atmosphere marked with a war between Iraq and Iran.
The bloc was set up to boost cooperation among the regional countries at the military, security, economic levels as well as in other fields. (end)
