Egypt aims to localise tablet manufacturing

(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) Egypt's Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced, on Sunday, that the government aims to localise the manufacturing of tablet computers to be used for educational purposes.

It came during Madbouly's meeting with Minister of Education Tarek Shawky, Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat, and Minister of State for Military Production Mohamed Ahmed Morsi.

Minister Talaat indicated that negotiations are currently underway with one of the major international companies specialised in this industry to establish tablet production lines in Egypt.

"This will allow tablets to be manufactured locally to cover demand, with an export opportunity as well," he added.

The Communications Ministry announced earlier its intention to establish a new technology factory with huge investments that will create 500 job opportunities.

In September, Egypt's Minister of Education said that his ministry has 'ambitious plans' in the coming period to provide all students in Egypt with digital learning resources.

He noted that students in Grades 10 to 12 have access to such resources, with the ministry set to extend these services to the whole 12 million students from Grade 4 to 9.
