Greece reports 89 virus-related deaths, 1,251 infections

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ANKARA, Dec 7 (KUNA) -- Greece on Monday announced that 89 patients died from the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) and 1,251 people tested positive for the disease in the past 24 hours.
The death toll climbed to 3,092 and infections to 116,721 since the outbreak of the pandemic, Athens News Agency reported, citing a statement from the National Public Health Organization (NPHO).
Up to 600 patients, including 167 women, are receiving treatment at intensive care units and using respirators.
Some 668 people recovered from the virus in the same day, the statement noted.
Earlier in the day, Greek government spokesman Stelios Petsas announced the extension of closing schools and continuing online learning until January 7 so as to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
The country has set a "road map" for a gradual and safe return to normal life, he was quoted by the agency in a press statement as saying.
Despite a noticeable decrease in the cases over the recent days, there is a big pressure on the health system, he said. (end)
