Iran: Greenhouse area reaches 262 hectares in Sistan-Baluchestan Province


(MENAFN)25 hectares of new greenhouses have been established in the province since the start of this year in the Iranian calendar year (March 20), declared the deputy head of the Agriculture Department of Sistan-Baluchestan Province, in the southeast of Iran.

The greenhouse area has at the present stood at 262 hectares in the province, stated Amanollah Towqi.

Over 40,000 tons of products are yearly produced in the greenhouses of the province, and sent to the domestic and foreign markets, he further said.


He also said that, as the beginning of this year, 240 tons of tomatoes, produced in the greenhouses of Sistan-Baluchestan, have been exported to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

As the same time as the drought in latest years has banned this sector from being improved as predictable, the agriculture sector acting an important role in the promotion of the Iranian economy.

The Agriculture Ministry has used some actions and defined some programs, to tackle this situation, for example, the improvement of irrigation systems.
