Afghanistan- Heavy Snowfalls Activate Power Turbines in Mahipar Dam

(MENAFN- Khaama Press) Kabul and a number of other provinces have witnessed heavy snowfall in the second month of the autumn season.

According to the Meteorological Department, more than 20 provinces are evident to heavy snowfall.

The department posted on Facebook Sunday that the waves of rain and snow will move completely from Nuristan, Kunar, and Badakhshan provinces this afternoon.

The meteorological department added there will be no more snow and rain in the country for another two days.

The Meteorological Agency warns that the coming winter will be severely cold in the country.

DABs, on the other hand, said with the increased level of water due to heavy rainfalls in the Kabul river, two electricity turbines from Mahipar have been activated in the power network.

The power generation capacity of these two turbines combined reaches 41 megawatts.

At least 41 megawatts of electricity in Mahipar Dam could be effective in reducing power shortages, Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat reports.

Breshna National Company also urged citizens to be careful with electricity consumption, as the reduced utilization of energy supports the electricity to be distributed to all of the citizens.

However, 19 years after the establishment of the government and public service institutions, of which Breshna is one, the company has not been able to solve the electricity shortages around the nation.

Kabul, the central region of Afghanistan, lacks uninterrupted electricity energy and with the onset of winter seasons, the capital mostly faces power shortages.

Meanwhile, 14 thousand families receive permanent electricity in the Hazar Sumoch district of Takhar province.

The new electricity grid currently supplies the needs of about 1,700 households in the villages of Hazar Sumoch and Kanjak and has the capacity to supply electricity to additional households in the future.
