(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) Riyadh, October 22, 2020, SPA -- The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia participated in Donor Conference for Rohingya Refugees that was held in Geneva today virtually.
The Kingdom's delegation was headed by the Advisor at the Royal Court and Supervisor General of King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Rabeeah.
The conference aims to provide aid and meet the urgent humanitarian needs of Rohingya refugees, and to enhance their ability to curb COVID-19 and other health educational and economic needs.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's participation in this conference confirms its approach and is a continuation of its policy aimed at alleviating the suffering of refugees and supporting their host societies around the world. The aid provided by the Kingdom to refugees during the past two decades is estimated at nearly $15 billion, including the Rohingya minority to which the Kingdom extended its support for more than 60 years. The Kingdom hosts around 270,000 Rohingya refugees, and provides them with free health and education services, and job opportunities.
Saudi Arabia provided relief aid to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar during the period from 2007 to 2020, with nearly $88 million allocated to the Rohingya displaced people to implement 27 relief projects, 17 of which were implemented through KSrelief with more than $18 million from 2016 to 2020.
