Qatar- Building permits issued in Sept show robust growth


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The lifting of Covid-19 restrictions had a profound impact on the outlook of Qatar's construction sector in September as the building permits showed a robust double-digit growth compared to those in August 2020, according to the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA).
In its latest data, the PSA also found a double-digit month-on-month increase in the building completion certificates issued in the review period.
The total number of new building permits issued were 757, of which Al Rayyan constituted 24% or 182 permits, Doha (22% or 170), Al Daayen (16% or 124), Umm Slal (8% or 58), Al Khor (6% or 46), Al Shahaniya (3% or 25) and Al Shamal (2% or 16).
On a monthly basis, at the national level, the number of building permits issued rose 31% with Al Shahaniya witnessing more than doubled permits, Al Daayen (43% growth), Umm Slal (35%), Doha (33%), Al Wakra (28%), Al Rayyan (24%) and Al Khor (18%); while there was a 6% decline in Al Shamal.
The building permits data is of particular importance as it is considered an indicator for the performance of the construction sector which in turn occupies a significant position in the national economy.
The PSA data indicates that the new building permits (residential and non-residential) constituted 43% (327 permits) of the total building permits issued this September, additions 52% (392 permits) and fencing 5% (38 permits).
Of the new residential buildings permits, villas topped the list, accounting for 74% (199 permits) of the total, dwellings of housing loans 17% (46 permits) and apartments 7% (19 permits).
Among non-residential sector, commercial structures accounted for 39% or 23 permits, the industrial buildings as workshops and factories 31% (18 permits) and government buildings 19% (11 permits).
Qatar saw a total of 368 building completion certificates issued this September, of which 283 or 77% was for the new buildings (residential and non-residential) and 85 or 23% for additions.
The PSA figures suggest that of the total number of new building permits issued in September this year, Al Rayyan constituted 30% or 111 permits, Wakra (24% or 88), Doha (15% or 55), Al Daayen (15% or 55), Umm Slal (6% or 23), Al Shahaniya (5% or 17), Al Khor (4% or 16), and Al Shamal (1% or four).
The overall building completion certificates issued saw a 33% jump month-on-month in September 2020 with Al Khor witnessing more than doubled certificates issued, Al Shahaniya (70% growth), Al Daayen (69%), Al Rayyan (48%), Doha (38%) and Al Wakra (16%); while there was 33% and 23% decline in the municipalities of Al Shamal and Umm Slal respectively.
Of the 247 residential buildings completion certificates issued, as many as 153 or 62% were for villas, dwellings of housing loans 81 or 33% and other buildings 10 or 4%.
Of the 153 villas completion certificates issued this September, as many as 41 were in Al Rayyan, 34 Al Daayen, 32 in Al Wakra, 19 in Doha, 12 in Umm Slal, 10 in Al Khor, four in Al Shahaniya and one in Al Shamal.
Of the 81 dwellings of housing loans completion certificates issued, Al Rayyan saw 37, Wakra (26), Al Daayen (eight), Umm Slal and Al Shahaniya (four each), and Al Khor (two).
In the case of 10 apartments, Doha received five completion certificates issued, three in Wakra and one each in Al Rayyan and Al Khor.
