Laos to enlarge electricity production potential

(MENAFN) A new transmission line business that Lao and Chinese enterprises have both decided to set up is projected to maximize Laos' electricity production potential.

Lao state-owned Electricite du Laos (EDL) and China Southern Power Grid (CSG) inked the shareholders' accord in Lao capital Vientiane in September to both create Electricite du Laos Transmission Company Limited (EDLT).

With EDLT's plan to establish 230kV high-voltage transmission lines, the network, once prepared, will be able of transmitting larger volumes of power, thus enabling large hydropower plants to augment their generation.

The current lower voltage grid with incomplete transmission capability has banned larger power plants from running at complete production potential, particularly during the rainy season.
