Arab Maghreb continues battling COVID-19


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) RABAT, Oct 4 (KUNA) -- Some 37 patients succumbed to COVID-19, and 2,044 new infections were reported in the past 24 hours in Morocco.
The figures took the caseload up to 133,272, and death toll to 2,320, the Moroccan Health Ministry said Sunday.
The ministry added that up to 2,394 people recovered from the virus in the same period, raising the total to 111,036.
It further noted that some 19,906 patients, including 461 at ICUs, are being treated at hospitals.
Tunisian Health Ministry reported 45 deaths and 2,509 infections of COVID-19 over the weekend, taking the caseload to up 22,230 and death toll up to 321.
Meanwhile, Algeria's Health Ministry reported four virus-related deaths and 141 new cases in the last day.
Overall infections and deaths rose to 52,136 and 1,760 respectively, Dr. Djamel Fourar, the spokesperson for COVID-19 Monitoring and Follow-up Committee, said during a news conference.
However, the number of recoveries rose by 96 to 36,578, he added, indicating that 21 patients are currently at ICUs.
Further south, the Mauritanian Health Ministry said 3 people contracted COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, bringing overall infections to 7,520 with no deaths reported, keeping the toll at 162, while recoveries increased by 14 to 7,188, a ministry statement said. (end)
