31-year-old woman stabs sleeping flatmate in Dubai

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A 31-year-old woman in Dubai has been charged with attempted murder at the Dubai Court of First Instance for reportedly stabbing her flatmate.

The assault could have killed the complainant had she not been taken to a hospital immediately, public prosecution records showed. Court documents did not cite any reason behind the attack.

The complainant, a 25-year-old Indian woman, said during the investigation that she was sleeping in the living room when she woke up to the screams of the defendant. "I then found myself bleeding from the right side of my abdomen. As my mother rushed to grab the accused, I snatched the knife from the latter's hand and escaped."

The complainant's mother said she was watching TV while her daughter was sleeping when the incident happened. "I was surprised when the defendant stepped inside the room and walked towards my daughter while screaming. I then noticed that she was holding a knife and saw her stab my daughter in the upper part of her right arm and in her abdomen."

The mother quickly grabbed the accused to help save her daughter, she said. "My daughter then snatched the knife from her hand and escaped."

A police officer said that when he interrogated the accused at Al Qusais station, she admitted to stabbing the complainant. "She said she brought a knife from the kitchen and stabbed the victim while she slept."

A forensic report, dated July 28, stated that the complainant's stab wounds were deep and could have been deadly. It recommended that the victim be examined six months later for a follow-up.

A ruling will be pronounced on October 11.
