Pakistan- Child given Rs30 to keep quiet after sexual abuse in madrassa

PESHAWAR: A court in Peshawar has dismissed the bail petition of two clerics who were arrested from a religious seminary (madrassa) on charges of involvement in sexual abuse of a nine-year-old boy.

The Child Protection Court has ordered to keep the two arrested clerics in the jail while rejecting their bail application. The hearing on bail application of another cleric allegedly involved in the case was adjourned till September 22.

According to the prosecution, the accused Qari Faizur Rehman and Qari Iqrarullah, hailing from Chitral and living in Jamia Al-Hasan, Rehman Baba, Peshawar, went to Madrassa Sheikh Habib in Wazir Bagh area, administered by Qari Hafiz, hailing from Chitral, where Faizur Rehman allegedly subjected a nine-year-old boy to sexual abuse. The father of the victim boy filed a case against the three accused in Agha Mir Jani Police Station after which they were arrested.

After the arrest, the main accused, Faizur Rehman confessed his crime before the judicial magistrate Peshawar. He claimed that he did sexual intercourse with the child with his consent and he did not do it forcibly. The prosecution further alleged that the co-accused gave Rs30 to the victim child to keep quiet, but he revealed everything before the police.

The court has rejected the bail plea of Faizur Rehman and Iqrarullah, while hearing on Zafar's bail plea was adjourned till September 22.

Marriage celebration turns into grief

One person lost his life and another was critically injured when they were hit by bullets during aerial firing at a wedding function in Nowshera on Saturday.

Police said a wedding function of three brothers was underway in Baba Jee Killi in Nowshera when some guests resorted to aerial firing to celebrate the occasion. The bullets hit two guests and one of them, Abdul Majeed, 25, died when he was being shifted to hospital, while Khairul Abrar sustained injuries. The injured person was shifted to Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar in critical condition.

The accused, Asfandyar, who resorted to aerial firing, escaped from the scene and he has not been arrested yet. Police have filed a case and initiated investigation.

Meanwhile, five persons were injured when a vehicle carrying wedding guests in Chagharzai area of Buner met an accident.
