Afghanistan- Security personnel among 49 killed in Nangarhar attacks


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Dozens of soldiers and insurgents have been killed and wounded in clashes with Taliban insurgents in three districts of eastern Nangarhar province, officials said on Thursday.

Governor Spokesperson Ataullah Khogyani told Pajhwok Afghan News 20 police including uprising members and soldiers have been killed and 15 others wounded in Taliban attacks on security check-posts in Hesarak, Sherzad and Khogyani districts on Thursday.

He said 29 Taliban insurgents were also killed and 20 others wounded in the counter-attack.

He added, the dead included members of their Red Brigade, commanders, foreigner's militants. Reinforcement had been sent to the area and the situation was now under control.

Khushal, a resident of Hesarak district, wrote on his Facebook page that five members of his family had been killed in the attack.

He did not said, if the dead were civilians or they had served in the security forces.
