(MENAFN- KNN India) Ludhiana MSMEs seek upgradation of research & development centres for auto parts
Ludhiana, Aug 18 (KKN) Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the state have urged the Union MSME Minister Nitin Gadkari to step in to upgrade the research and development centre here for the benefit of the auto parts and engineering industry.
The Chamber of Industrial & Commercial Undertakings (CICU) lauded the central government move to impose a curb on the import of power tillers, which has brought a good opportunity for industrialists in North India.
'There are many manufacturing units making spare parts for power tillers at various places in the state, including Phagwara, Jalandhar and Ludhiana,' CICU said during a video conference with the Minister on Monday.
CICU's president Upkar Singh and general secretary Pankaj Sharma said there were many manufacturers in the state but due to lack of research and development, designing and testing were not done.
'In Ludhiana, there are two centres — Institute of Auto Parts and Research and Development (R & D) Centre — which were set up with the help of the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO). These centres have an adequate area and basic testing facilities but these need to be upgraded with the latest technology, they said.
'If the government extends its support and upgrades the centres as per international standards, it will help the industries in North India in making world-class products and compete in the international market,' CICU added.
Gadkari, has appreciated the suggestion given by CICU and has assured that the ministry will extend its full support to upgrade the centres.
Ahuja further mentioned that he is in touch with the Punjab Government for setting up the centre in Ludhiana and will take steps to set up the centre in Ludhiana at earliest.
