Qatar- QA carries 45 tonnes of essential supplies to Beirut


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Qatar Airways has carried over 45 tonnes of essential supplies, already donated by its employees, from Doha to Beirut. Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive H E Akbar Al Baker was present to oversee the shipment's departure, Qatar Airways tweeted yesterday. 
'The tragic events that took place last week in Beirut were truly devastating. Standing with the people of Lebanon Qatar Airways today launches an aid programme that will enable citizens and residents of Qatar to donate essential supplies, Qatar Airways said in another tweet. 
At the event H E Akbar Al Baker said: 'Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Lebanon during this tragedy. In such difficult times, it has been touching to see so many of our employees at Qatar Airways offering their support to the people of Lebanon through donations.
H E Akbar Al Baker also said: 'We are delighted to extend our aid programme to members of the public in Qatar. Today's freighter is one of three that we will fly to Beirut.
Qatar Airways has partnered with Qatar Charity, Monoprix Qatar and Talabat to deliver the aid programme, with essential supplies being transported free of charge from Doha to Beirut by Qatar Airways Cargo, said Qatar Airways in another tweet.
