Afghanistan- Fortescue Metals to exploit Afghan mineral riches

KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani held a video conference with head of the Australian Fortescue Metals Group and discussed investment opportunities in Afghanistan , a statement said on Thursday.

During the meeting, investment opportunities in energy and mining sector of Afghanistan were discussed, the statement said.

Head of the Fortescue Metals Group Andrew Forrest said his company had a rich experience in exploitation of natural resources in the region and was interested to make investment in renewable energy sector.

President Ashraf Ghani provided information about natural riches in the country and generation of renewable energy from water and solar.

The meeting also discussed joint investment schemes by foreign companies in Afghanistan's iron and copper mines.

Forrest said his company was interested to make investment in Afghanistan and added Afghanistan was a rich country as far as natural resources were concerned and could become a huge producer of energy.
