Afghanistan sees robust growth in beekeeping industry

A farmer in Baghlan province of Afghanistan, Matiullah, said that "I can sell around 150 kilograms of honey annually and earn 150,000 afghani (1,948 U.S. dollars) to support my family".

The farmer said that the business is good and that it is a beneficial profession, as he continues to make his living as a beekeeper in his town that is located in the district of Andarab since four years.

According to the farmer, 1 kg of honey can be sold for a total of USD12.9 at face value, which is equal to 1,000 afghani.

Adding that his farm honey is pure and that the industry is profitable that encouraged many farmers to start beekeeping in their areas, harvest honey and sell.

Another farmer, Mohammad Edris, said that "I started beekeeping four years ago and since then my living conditions have changed as I can earn between 150,000 afghani (1,948 U.S. dollars) to 200,000 afghani (2,595 U.S. dollars) annually by selling honey".
