Ludhiana, Jun 23 (KNN) Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) have requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make transportation arrangements to bring migrant labourers back here.

In this regard, the Chamber of Industrial & Commercial Undertaking (CICU) has written a letter to the Prime Minister and said during the lockdown, migrants travelled back to their villages, but no arrangements have now been made to bring them back in Unlock 1.0.

"Labourers are willing to come back but the only hurdle is transportation. They are facing trouble at their native places and calling the firms they had left in the lockdown to call them back, as they have no money left to meet their daily expenses. We also want the labour to come back as production at many units has dipped to 40 per cent due to manpower shortage," said Upkar Singh, CICU president.

Earlier this month, Commerce and Industry Minister Sham Sunder Arora had assured MSMEs in the state to run buses, special trains to ferry migrants back to Punjab.

The Minister said this during a meeting with city businessmen to discuss the various issues related to the Industry.

''Special trains and buses will be run to bring back labour in the Industry and other issues related to power, pollution, VAT, c forms, Labour reforms etc will be resolved soon,'' CICU had quoted Arora as saying.
