UAE- Sharjah Municipality crackdown on construction sites to ensure safety of workers, residents
(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Sharjah Municipality has launched a crackdown on buildings under construction to ensure compliance of the mid-day break rules at these sites.
The move follows the announcement of the mid-day break, which began on June 15. The policy bans all work activities performed under the sun and in open places from 12.30pm to 3pm.
The civic body inspections will also check if all steps are being taken at the sites for the safety of workers and their adherence to anti-Covid-19 measures.
Necessary action will be taken against those who flout regulations prescribed for under-construction sites. The crackdown is targeting residential, commercial and industrial areas to reduce violations including failure to obtain tower cranes permits, poor condition of the temporary fence, lack of cleanliness at the under-construction site, presence of off-site materials or debris, the existence of workers'' housing at the worksite and lack of an advertisement board or incomplete information.
Violators to face hefty fines
The municipality recently received a number of complaints about many of these sites breaching rules. The civic body immediately looked into them and launched operation to book the offenders.
"The municipality would slap hefty fines on violators to ensure safety of workers and residents near the construction sites," a Sharjah Municipality official said.
He stressed on the need for cooperation from contractors and consultants to preserve the aesthetic appearance of Sharjah city.
"The municipality will continue its inspection visits regularly to crackdown on violations of under-construction buildings in commercial, industrial and residential areas," he added.
