(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR: The death toll of Pakistani citizens who died of coronavirus in the UAE has reached 34 who have been laid to rest in the Gulf country.
Pakistan's Ambassador to Abu Dhabi Ghulam Dastgir has thanked the authorities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for providing free of cost testing and treatment facilities to the Pakistani nationals.
The death toll in the UAE from the pandemic has crossed 300, while infections have crossed 44,500.
On May 14, the federal government had allowed bringing of bodies of coronavirus victims from abroad. The permission was granted on conditional basis and following of all the standard operating procedures (SOPs) in this regard was declared mandatory.
Hundreds of Pakistani workers in the UAE have returned to Pakistan after the outbreak of coronavirus and many more are still waiting to come back. A sizable number of workers returning from the UAE belong to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
International flights resume
Pakistan has decided to resume international flights from today (Sunday) to facilitate the Pakistani workers abroad who want to come back.
Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Saturday that airspace would be opened partially for international flights by Sunday mainly to facilitate the overseas workers.
"Tomorrow (Sunday) we will partially open airspace for international flights. This is being done specially to help our overseas workers who have suffered most in this pandemic but have shown great courage and made us proud," the prime minister said on Twitter on Saturday.
The prime minister welcomed the expatriates returning to their homes and assured that the government would facilitate them in every way.
Saudi Arabia lifts curfew
Saudi Arabia has resumed all commercial activities and lifted restrictions on movement despite the fact that the coronavirus cases are still increasing.
Curfew was lifted, but the international travel and Umrah will continue to be banned. Entry to Saudi Arabia through land or sea route also remains prohibited. Social distancing remains in place and wearing of facemasks is mandatory. Public gatherings can't exceed 50 people.
On the other hand, the kingdom reported 3,941 new COVID-19 cases taking the total number of cases in the country to 154,233. The kingdom has reported over 1,200 deaths from the pandemic so far.
