12 more patients test positive for COVID-19 in Libya. total at 168


(MENAFN) On Monday, the overall figure of the confirmed COVID-19 cases in Libya has jumped to 168 after 12 more patients tested positive for the virus, the National Center for Disease Control of Libya announced, adding that the combined tally of both patients who died due to the infection and those who have survived it reached 5 and 52, respectively.

The recent infections came as the only 12 tests that returned positive among a total of 658 laboratory examinations conducted in the center in the last 24 hours ending Monday, the statement of the center showed.

According to the center's data, the South regions of Libya were the only to report the newly-recognized cases.

The southern city of Sabha recorded nearly half of the total number of COVID-19 cases in the North African country in less than a week after the announcement of the first case in the city.

Recently, the UN-backed government in the capital city of Tripoli decided to ban border crossings from Sabha and levied a twenty - four - hour curfew for 7 days set to begin on 28 May, in order to battle the pandemic .
