Qatar- AAB, QCA celebrate Eid al-Fitr with Alone Together online chess


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Abdullah Abdulghani & Bros Co (AAB), the exclusive distributor of Toyota and Lexus in Qatar, and Qatar Chess Association celebrate Eid al-Fitr with the Alone Together Online Chess Tournament.
Alone Together is the third edition of the Stay Home Online Chess tournament which began in of April. Concurrently, the tournament was run under the banner of FIDE Checkmate Coronavirus a platform for tournaments where leading global chess players are also participating. Played on Lichess an open source Internet Chess server, chess enthusiasts from all over the world are given the opportunity to participate.
More than 1,200 chess enthusiasts with 40 Grand Masters and 180 Titled Players around the world participated.
Indian Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi won the tournament, while Peruvian GM Jose Martinez and Azerbaijani GM Rauf Mamedov finished second and third respectively.
The tournament also recognised top three resident players — Moldovan GM Victor Bologan, Loyola Rolenson of Philippines and Syrian IM Abdulrahim al-Mahyo won first, second and third place respectively.
GM Mohamed al-Sayed topped the Best Qatari — Male category, while WCM Kholoud Khulaifi won the Best Qatari Female category. Saleh al-Hor won the Best Qatari U20 category, while Mohamed al-Qassabi won the Best Qatari U14 category. Layan al-Qassabi topped Best Qatari U12.
Alone Together Online Chess Tournament gives a message of solidarity in the midst of social distancing measures in place. It is a reminder that flattening the curve and preventing the spread of coronavirus is depends primarily on everyone's individual effort to maintain and observe proper hygiene, follow safety measures and comply with the government's directives in their fight against Covid-19. 
The event is made possible due to the strong partnership with QCA which forms part of AAB's CSR initiatives and commitment to build and support a community of strategic thinkers through sports while at the same time contributing to the development of a just and caring society.
