Myanmar flight brings back Sri Lankans from Yangon


(MENAFN- Colombo Gazette) The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Myanmar with collaboration of the Ministry of Foreign Relations and the support of the Presidential Secretariat of Sri Lanka, coordinated the repatriation of seventy two (72) Sri Lankans mainly comprising monks, nuns, students and professionals today (16th May, 2020) from Yangon through a special relief fight 8M 611 arranged by Myanmar Airways International.

The flight landed at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) this afternoon.

The arrangements were made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture of Myanmar where 'Sitagu International Buddhist Academy', a popular Buddhist Academy in Myanmar sponsored the airway tickets for 18 Sri Lankan monks, nuns and students.

The Sri Lankan community in Myanmar collectively arranged a donation of Personal Protection supplies worth of LKR 350,000 including face masks, face shields and PPEs as a contribution for Sri Lanka's battle against COVID 19. The donation will be directed to the Sri Lanka Navy.

The flight was to return from Colombo this afternoon carrying Myanmar monks and students who were on a study tour to Sri Lanka. (Colombo Gazette)
