The Government today insisted that the old Parliament will not be reconvened under any circumstances.

The opposition has been calling for the Parliament to be reconvened to discuss the crisis in the country.

However, Minister Bandula Gunawardena told reporters today that even under an emergency situation the old Parliament will not be reconvened.

Gunawardena said that the position of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the Prime Minister and the Government is that the old Parliament must not be reconvened.

He said that the old Parliament will not be reconvened even to declare a state of Emergency.
