Pakistan- Coronavirus cases in KP cross 1,000


(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR: The death toll from novel coronavirus in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has mounted to 50 with five more deaths during the last 24 hours.

According to a situation report released by the KP health Department, as many as 93 new coronavirus cases have also been confirmed in the province, taking the provincial tally to 1,077.

Of the five latest deaths, two are from Mansehra and three from Peshawar.

The situation report said the discrepancy in data with the previous updates is because data synchronisation is not yet in real time.

Countrywide death toll reaches 143

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan has reached 7,497 and death toll stands at 143.

According to latest data, Sindh has reported 2,217 cases, Punjab 3,391, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 1,077, Balochistan 351, Islamabad Capital Territory 163, Gilgit-Baltistan 245 and Azad Jammu and Kashmir has reported 48 cases.

Out of total 143 deaths, KP has reported 50 deaths, Sindh 47, Balochistan 5, Gilgit-Baltistan three, Punjab 37 and Islamabad Capital Territory has reported one death.

62pc coronavirus cases in Pakistan are locally transmitted

The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) revealed on Saturday that around 62 percent of Pakistan's total confirmed coronavirus cases are locally transmitted.

According to the data released by the NCOC, the remaining 38 percent of the cases recorded in the country are of those with a foreign travel history. Social distancing is described as the best measure to avoid the spread of coronavirus.

Measures for Ramazan discussed

Minister for Religious Affairs and Inter-faith Harmony Pir Noorul Haq Qadri Friday called on Prime Minister Imran Khan to discuss measures for the upcoming holy month of Ramazan amid the coronavirus issue.

The prime minister directed to prepare a comprehensive roadmap for Ramazan in consultations with Ulema. The prime minister said he will hold personal meetings with Ulema and religious scholars next week.

They also discussed details of scheduled meeting of President Arif Alvi with religious scholars being held today (Saturday).

The consultative meeting of Ulema and Mashaikh will be held in Islamabad today to adopt strategy for prayer congregations and Namaz-e-Taraweeh during Ramazan.
President Dr Arif Alvi is chairing the meeting, which will prepare a strategy based on effective steps to contain the spread of coronavirus.
