(MENAFN- The Peninsula) With the immense challenges posed by COVID-19 pandemic, it takes hard work, resourcefulness and confidence to succeed in the current state of the fashion industry.
Speaking in an online coaching session hosted by Qatari fashion designer Fahad Al Obaidly, on Saturday, textile designer Karl-Artur Korsar (pictured) advised emerging designers 'not to be shy especially in this time of uncertainty, while underlining that it is the time to reach out to companies.
He said it is very important for designers to do their own research to assess what the industry presently needs, and in his case, he said he is currently engaged in creating face masks which are in great demand with the COVID-19 outbreak. There's business though it's hard, he noted, while recommending business-to-business approach.
Korsar shared his journey to becoming a textile designer, from the beginnings of his interest in textile design and his pursuit for a career in the field by studying to become a designer to the early stage of his career until establishing his own brand.
It was no surprise why the Estonian designer chose textile design as his career path. The son of a tailor and younger brother to a couture dressmaker, Korsar took up textile design at the Estonian Academy of Arts where alongside a technical understanding of fabrics, he developed his passion and flair for print design.
Upon finishing his studies, he spent several years working on various freelance commissions in London, Melbourne and Sydney, before returning to Estonia to set up his label.
During the online session, Korsar also shared crucial things that a person should understand when working in textile design such as choosing the materials, colour schemes and creating print design digitally or by hand.
Organised by M7, a creative startups hub dedicated to innovation and entrepreneurship established by Qatar Museums for the nation's growing fashion and design industry, the sessions are aimed to guide and encourage aspiring designers.
The biweekly series of online coaching sessions are held every Thursday and Saturday at 6pm on the M7 Instagram account, @M7.qatar.
Dubbed 'Equip the next online coaching sessions scheduled this coming Thursday and Saturday will feature Amir Berbic, Dean of Virginia Commonwealth University Qatar, and Maryam Al Sumait, the co-founder of the design service agency Makery, who will discuss different applications that designers can use to produce and launch their products.
