6 missing following ash leak from Indian power plant

Authorities said on Saturday that six villagers have gone missing following a leak of toxic ash from a power plant in Madhya Pradesh state of India as the ash spread in the area.

A breach was reported in the dyke wal surrounding an artificial pond that containts toxic residue resulting from a coal power factory on Friday in the distrcit of Singrauli that falls around 780 km to the east of Madhya Pradesh capital Bhopal.

Singrauli District Collector's office government official said that "We are being told six people are missing after being swept away by sludge that leaked from a pond at the site owned by Reliance Power".

Adding that "We have sent rescue teams to the spot to assess the situation and probe the reason of breach".

Reports said that the sludge has leaked into agricultural farms and surrounded the power plant.
