Afghanistan- Karzai, Sayyaf, Khalili, Qanooni share demands with Ghani, Abdullah as political tensions boil

(MENAFN- Khaama Press) The former President Hamid Karzai, Abdul Rab Rasool Sayyaf, Mohammad Karim Khalili and Mohammad Younus Qanooni urged President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani to stop the appointment of government officials.

The prominent Political figures issued a statement as tensions boil on political level, a move which is feared to hamper the peace process.

The statement also added that they urge Abdullah to extend the timeline which has been set to reach to a political agreement.

This comes as tensions remain high on political level as efforts are underay to find a negotiated political settlement to end the ongoing conflict in the country.

The United States reiterated its outrage with the ongoing political chaos in Afghanistan, emphasizing that business can't be as usual for international donors in the country.

'It can't be business as usual for international donors in #Afghanistan. International aid requires partnership with an inclusive government and we all must hold Afghan leaders accountable to agree on a governing arrangement,' Alice Wells, the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asia said in a Twitter post.

Washington had earlier cut 1 billion in economic assistance to Afghanistan in reaction to ongoing political impasse.

The State Department issued a statement late last month, stating that Washington is prepared to further reduce its assistance to Afghanistan by additional $1 billion next year.

'The United States deeply regrets that Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and former Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah have informed Secretary Pompeo that they have been unable to agree on an inclusive government that can meet the challenges of governance, peace, and security, and provide for the health and welfare of Afghan citizens,' the statement said.
