Sri Lanka- Suspect remanded for spreading fake news
(MENAFN- Colombo Gazette) A suspect who was arrested in Uhumeeya, Kurunegala for spreading false news on covid-19 via social media, was remanded till 8 April.The 38 year- old man from Kalubowila, was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) yesterday. The Police Media Spokesman SP Jaliya Senaratne said the suspect was remanded after being produced before court today. He has been identified as a former employee of a politician, SP Senaratne revealed. SP Senaratne said, meanwhile, another suspect who was earlier arrested for spreading false news on the Coronavirus was also remanded till 31 March.The CID is carrying out investigations into 57 persons suspected of spreading fake news on the Covid19, he said. The Police Media Spokesman added stringent legal action will be taken against those arrested over spreading fake news on the coronavirus via social media. (Colombo Gazette)
