Beating COVID-19 claims 1st life in Cape Verde


(MENAFN) The death toll from the novel coronavirus has risen to one in Cape Verde Arlindo do Rosario as the country's health minister declared on Tuesday the first patient to die from the virus.

In the wee hours of Monday night, a British male tourist, at his 62, pronounced death after being confirmed infected with the virus as the first case in the country, the official added.

As part of intensive measures to curb the spread of the virus, the island of Boa Vista would be put under isolation till April 4, according to the announcement of the Prime Minister of Cape Verde Ulisses Correia e Silva released on March 20.

During this period, all local flights and ferryboats to and from Boa Vista are banned with only cargo boats are allowed to port at the island for daily needs.
