Afghanistan- Herat discharges first recovered coronavirus patient

KABUL: Amid concerns over the coronavirus outbreak around
the world, it's important to remember most who become infected recover from the
illness. There are officially seven positive cases in Afghanistan, where the
first patient in western Herat province has recovered and sent home.
New data had showed that nearly 70,000 people have recovered
from the infection since the outbreak kicked off in late December. Data from
Johns Hopkins University shows that more than 68,000 people have recovered
from the virus so far, as the number of cases worldwide has surpassed
127,000.
The first case has surfaced in Herat and the infected came
from Iran—a country in which hundreds of people died of virus and other tens of
thousands were infected.
The cases have jumped to seven now, according to the
ministry of public health. A number of suspected cases were also reported and
it will take 24 hours to define.
Herat Public Health Director, said three more test of the
infected person will be conducted in their homes and possible will be cured.
If these tests were negative, the patients would be discharged
in a special ceremony, provincial health officials said.
The embassy of China in Kabul offered help to the ministry
of public to sufficiently fight against the virus. China—the source of virus
outbreak, has almost succeeded to cure the virus.
The World Health Organization (WHO) says those that
experience mild illness typically recover from the illness in about two weeks,
while those who experience a more severe illness could take up to six weeks to
recover.
'The most commonly reported symptoms included fever, dry
cough, and shortness of breath, and most patients (80%) experienced mild
illness,' WHO said. 'Approximately 14 percent experienced severe disease and 5
percent were critically ill.'
