Airstrikes leave 26 Iraqi fighters dead in Syria

A war monitor said on Thursday that 26 Iraqi fighters have died as airstrikes struck an area in Dier al-Zour province of Syria on Wednesday.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that the U.S.-led coalition is thought to be behind the airstrike that hit al-Bukamal city in the countryside of the province.

The airstrikes killed fighters from the Iraqi Hashd Shaabi, or Popular Mobilization Forces, said the observatory.

The observatory said that the strikes have resulted in the death of Iraq Hashd Shaabi members, it is a well known fact that the fighters have bases near al-Bukamal city.
