Kuwait Embassy honors Canadian veterans of Liberation War


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON, Feb 20 (KUNA) -- Kuwait Embassy in Ottawa hosted a celebration to honor a number of Canadian veterans who took part in Kuwait Liberation War in 1991.
The function, attended by Canadian Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defense Lawrence MacAulay, coincides with the celebrations marking Kuwait''s 59th National Day and 29th Liberation Day.
Kuwait Ambassador to Canada Reem Al-Khaled presented orders, shields and certificates of appreciation to a number of Canadian veterans during the celebration and then delivered a speech to the gathering.
On behalf of the leaders and people of the State of Kuwait, Ambassador Al-Khaled renewed gratitude to the global coalition, including a 4,000-strong Canadian force, for their role in liberation from the Iraqi invasion.
She spoke highly of "the great sacrifices offered by the Canadian forces which will remain in our memory forever."
She also appreciated Canada''s participation in the UN peace keeping force which signals the country''s commitment to the world peace and security.
On his part, MacAulay thanked Kuwait and Ambassador Al-Khaled for the kind initiative to honor the Canadian veterans.
"It is a kind gesture to honor the veterans despite the elapse of 29 years, which reflects the noble attitude of the political leaders and people of Kuwait," he pointed out.
On the sidelines of the celebration, a photo gallery was organized to feature the sacrifices offered by forces of the global coalition during the Liberation War. (end)
