Qatar- ACRPS to hold symposium on US-Iran crisis


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: The ACRPS is holding a symposium titled 'The US-Iran Crisis: Repercussions for the Region on Sunday 12 January 2020.



On Friday 3 January 2019, the US announced that it had carried out a targeted dawn air raid at Baghdad's international airport, where a convoy was transporting the head of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' (IRGC's) Quds Force, Qassem Soleimani and the deputy chief of the Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF), Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis. In response, at dawn on 7 January, the Iranians targeted the Ain Assad Air Base, which houses American soldiers, in the Iraqi province of Anbar, with surface-to-surface missiles, in addition to the American base in Erbil.



Considering the high relevance of this conflict to the security of the Arab region, the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies will hold the symposium titled 'The US-Iran Crisis: Repercussions for the Region on Sunday.



The symposium addresses the causes, context and implications of the crisis. Speaking at the event will be Marwan Kabalan, Director of the Unit for Political Studies, Haider Saeed, Head of the Research Department and Editor-in-Chief of Siyasat Arabiya journal, and Mehran Kamrava, Professor and Director of the Center for International and Regional Studies at Georgetown University in Qatar.
