Al-Shabab carried out attack on military base used by U.S. forces in Kenya

The U.S. military base in Kenya's coastal Lamu province, according to the Police and local witnesses confirmation, was hit on Sunday morning by the Somali extremist group, al-Shabab.

The U.S. forces had their jet burnt and the airfield damaged, according to the police.

The Kenyan soldiers resisted against the attack and succeeded to keep the airfield safe after killing some of al-Shabab assailants, stated the Kenyan authorities.

A police official, who preferred to be mentioned anonymously, stated that "There was a lot of gunfire between the militants and soldiers in the military base. Some aircraft and vehicles belonging to the U.S. were burnt".
