23 foreign troops killed in Afghanistan in 2019


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KABUL wok): At least 23 international troops were killed in 2019 in Afghanistan info-icon , says NATO info-icon .

A NATO Resolute Support (RS) mission spokesman told Pajhwok, that the 23 service members were killed in security incidents in different part of Afghanistan.

The source added 20 of the slain forces belonged to the United States while the rest hailed from other countries. The NATO mission did not give identities of the fallen soldiers.

In 2018, 19 foreign troops had been killed in Afghanistan -- 14 of them Americans.

According to the Icasualties website, about 26 foreign forces, 23 of them from the US, were killed in the country last year.

The website reported at least 3,585 foreign troops were killed, 2,441 from the US, 54 were from UK and the rest from other NATO allies.

Since the invasion of Afghanistan, 2010 was the deadliest year for international forces. About 710 foreign soldiers were killed -- 498 of them Americans, 103 British and 109 others from other countries.

Mohammad Hassan Haqyar, a military analyst, alleged foreign troops mostly kept their casualties secret. He told Pajhwok some American media outlets recently reported US officials misled the public about the Afghanistan war.

Haqyar linked the reduction in foreign troops to the involvement of the Afghan forces in the conflict, saying most of the operations were being carried out by the Afghans.
