FIFA Club World Cup finals to have all-Qatari referee trio

Rio de Janeiro – An all-Qatari referee trio be out in the field as Britain's Liverpool and Brazil's Flamengo play the FIFA Club World Cup final in Doha, Qatar. The match is slated for 2:30pm (BRT). The main referee will be Abdulrahman Al Jassim (pictured above during a match between Qatari teams). He'll be assisted by Taleb Al Marri and Saoud Ahmed Almaqleh. Video assistant referee (VAR) duties will be handled by Spain's Juan Martinez Munuera.

At age 32, this will be the highlight of Al Jassim's career. A FIFA referee since 2013, he's been the VAR in 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia matches.

Nine referees have been appointed to oversee the match, including Atkins Kyle, of the United States and Esteban Ostojich of Uruguay as VARs.

The fourth referee – whose job is to step in for the main ref in the event of an emergency – is Mustapha Ghorbal, of Algeria.

In 2018, Jair Marrufo, born in the USA to a Mexican referee father, handled the final match (Real Madrid vs Al Ain).
