Libyan forces detain 39 irregular migrants in Zuwara

(MENAFN) On Thursday, as many as 39 undocumented migrants were detained in the western Libyan city of Zuwara, the city's security department emphasized.

The department affirmed in a statement on late Thursday, "After receiving information about a site in eastern Zuwara suspected to be used to gather illegal immigrants, a patrol was immediately assigned to the scene. Upon arrival, 39 illegal immigrants of Bangladeshi nationality were found".

The statement stated that the rounded up illegal migrants were sent to a shelter.

Thousands of undocumented migrants choose to cross the Mediterranean Sea towards Europe from Libya although the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has repeatedly affirmed that Libya is not a safe port because of its worsening security circumstances.
