Deadly highway accidents in Myanmar


(MENAFN) According to a release from the Highway Police Force on Wednesday, the highway accidents of Myanmar through the public holidays of the traditional Thadingyut Lighting Festival, kills two people and injures 72 others; highway accidents occurred on Yangon-Mandalay highway from Oct. 10 to Oct. 15, 26.



According to Myanmar calendar year, the Thadingyut Festival, recognized as the Festival of Lights, is traditionally celebrated for three days and falls on the 15th of the seventh month, highlighting the finish of the rainy season.


Setting the festive days as the official holidays, famous places in Myanmar were full of visitors from both home and abroad and its Yangon-Mandalay highway was crammed with express buses and vehicles transporting holidaymakers.


Irresponsible driving and over-speeding are generally responsible for triggering accidents on the country's busiest highway.
