According to a statement issued by the Roads and Transport Authority (Dubai), the technical error affected Noor Bank,First Abu Dhabi Bank, Sharaf DG, Mall of The Emirates and Dubai Internet City metro stations.

However, bus services were launched at these spots to transport the travellers to their respective destinations.

Mohammed Usman, one of the commuters, was heading from Mall of the Emirates metro station to Danube.

"I was shocked to see the metro closed. I woke up this morning with extreme pain and redness in my eyes and I was heading to the doctor. But, instead, I am waiting here in the heat for the bus. I'm happy they have provided buses for us, but people are used to having the convenience of the metro , so this caused trouble for a lot of people."

A British tourist, Emma Grace, had planned a visit with her mum to the Dubai Frame - via Mall of the Emirates metro station.

"We wanted to go see the Frame as we have heard a lot about it, but when we were told the metro was closed temporarily, we thought we would wait in the mall for a bit.

"Then, we were told there were buses that could take us to another working metro station. If you're a tourist here or anywhere else, then these kinds of situations can really cause confusion. But the staff was very helpful," she added.

Another commuter, Melford Attah, said he was in a rush to get to the Union metro station as he was meant to provide his passport to his company for visa renewal, but the metro disruption delayed his plans.

"They were waiting for me to arrive and submit copies of my passport and documents, but it doesn't look like I am going to make it on time today," he said.

RTA tweeted at around 1:30pm about services resuming at the stations.
