(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) WANA: Two security personnel sustained serious injuries in a blast in South Waziristan tribal district on Thursday, local sources said.
The sources said an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded near Dashka check post in Makeen area of South Waziristan due to which two soldiers identified as Naik Irfan and Sepoy Qasim sustained injuries. The injured soldiers were shifted to a hospital in Razmak.
The security forces cordoned off the entire area after the IED blast and launched a search operation. However, no arrest was made during the search operation.
Meanwhile, the police and Frontier Corps conducted a joint operation in Bajaur tribal district and recovered a huge cache of explosive material.
Upon receiving secret information, police and FC carried out operation in Jangzai area of Loe Mamond tehsil and recovered a huge cache of explosive material. The seized arms include 10 rocket-propelled grenades, five hand grenades, two IED bombs and six walki talkies. By timely action, the security forces foiled plans of terrorists to carryout sabotage activities.
The security forces carried out operations in tribal districts after which most of the militants were driven out of these areas. However, militants still have some presence in tribal districts, particularly in Waziristan region, where they target the security forces mostly through IEDs.
Six people, including two FC personnel, lost their lives, while four personnel were injured in a firing incident in Seeenwam area of North Waziristan on Tuesday.
Official sources said a survey team of Mari Petroleum came under attack from unknown armed men.
On September 17, the PTI MPA Mohammad Iqbal Wazir survived an assassination attempt in North Waziristan. According to the district administration, the attack on MPA from PK-111 constituency took place in Aba Khel, Spinwam area in which he survived but his vehicle was damaged.
On August 31, three children were injured in two blasts in North and South Waziristan.
On August 24, a security personnel was martyred, while five others were injured in a landmine blast in North Waziristan. On August 20, four persons lost their lives and eight others sustained injuries in two separate landmine blasts in North and South Waziristan.
The security forces also launch intelligence-based operations in different parts of tribal districts upon receiving credible information about presence of militants.
