Strong storm hits Lao

Water has flooded in many areas of Lao after Podul storm wreaked havoc during the weekend, resulting in 1 death and dealing damage to rice crops.

Many parts of the country have flooded as Lao ministry of natural resources warned 15 provinces to be alerted to heavy rains and winds.

In Savannakhet province, 247 villages in 10 districts were affected by floods, Bounlop Khotlackkham, director of the province's Labor and Social Welfare Department, said.

He said that "According to initial reports, 28,273 families were affected and 36,188 hectares of rice crops are under water. A 22-year-old man in Atsaphon district drowned after he fell into floodwater".
