Oman- Meeting deliberates on labour issues in GCC states

The sultanate is hosting a three-day meeting of labour officials from the Gulf Cooperation Council. The meeting which began on Monday is discussing the challenges and solutions to labour issues in the region.

The meeting started with a speech by H E Hamad bin Khamis al Ameri, Undersecretary for Labour Affairs in Oman's Ministry of Manpower.

The chairman of the session welcomed the dignitaries and stressed that this meeting comes within a series of events to enhance coordination and cooperation among the members.

H E Ameri said, 'These meetings are held in the light of local, regional and international variables that have direct repercussions on the labour market and labour force issues in the region.

'This will undoubtedly affect all GCC countries as a result of their convergence in economic, environmental, social and cultural resources.'

The meeting also reviewed the preparations for the GCC Labour Ministers' Meeting to be held on Wednesday and discussed the decisions of the Supreme Council in the field of labour work programmes. 

The meeting also discussed permitting private employment activities, recruitment of non-GCC labour force, and sustainable development goals.
