12 government troops were killed near Gharyan in Libya


(MENAFN) The east-based army in Libya reported on Sunday that 12 troops were killed and more than 20 others were injured during some violent clashes near the city Gharyan 80 km south the Libyan capital Tripoli.

The army's information office stated that a senior military commander and two Islamic State (IS) suspects were among the victims. They also mentioned that the army took control of a position of the United Nation- backed government's forces near Gharyan.

Since early April, the United Nation's- backed government got involved in an armed conflict with the east based army in the capital Tripoli and around it, where last month, the United Nation's- backed government"s forces took over Gharyan city and dismissed the east-based army. The east based army is trying to take over the city and take down the government.
