A high-profile delegation from Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has recently completed a tour to enhance humanitarian diplomacy in Africa.

Over one week, the delegation visited Eswatini (Swaziland) and Mozambique, to conduct talks with fellow National Society leaders on humanitarian issues of common interest.

QRCS's delegation comprised Ali bin Hassan Al Hammadi, Secretary-General, and Dr. Fawzi Oussedik, Head of International Relations.

First, the two senior officials spent three days in Eswatini, where they held meetings with the President and board members of Baphalali Eswatini Red Cross Society (BERCS), the Minister of Health (MOH), Deputy Prime Minister, and the Queen Mother.

Then, the delegation headed for Mozambique, upon invitation from Mozambique Red Cross Society (CVM). The four-day visit built on the previous bilateral understandings during international humanitarian events. It is part of QRCS's strong relations with the components of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

The purpose of this visit was to establish bilateral cooperation between CVM and QRCS; provide an opportunity to know each other; explore possible areas of cooperation; and create technical teams to prepare an action plan proposal on the identified areas to materialize cooperation, including governance, management, disaster response mechanism, legal base enhancement, current programming, sustainability, partner support, and emergency preparedness/response.

They reviewed the host National Society's Strategic Plan 2018-2021 and agreed on a potential memorandum of understanding (MoU) to help in the country's efforts to recover from recurrent floods and cyclones, which affected 2 million population.

The delegation's agenda also included meetings with CVM President and Secretary-General, Minister of State Administration and Public Function, National Disaster Management Institute (INGC) Directorate, Head of Cluster of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Head of Mission of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

By the end of their stay, the delegation visited CVM's provincial branch in Sofala, and they made a field visit to the affected communities.
